Cresswell Industries: In business for more than 50 years
History of Cresswell Industries Inc.
The Cresswell company name was established in England in the early 1920’s by Mr. C.T. Cresswell.
The Cresswell family was involved in importing insulation materials from the United States. They also owned a small factory manufacturing steel frames for windows in the London area.
In 1929, a new English partner became involved, and the company expanded to Montreal, Quebec, under the name Cresswell Pomeroy Ltd. (reflecting the names of the two families who were now business partners). The new factory’s mission was the manufacture of metal components for fenestration, transportation and architecture. This plant added to the range of products manufactured in England and helped the company penetrate the North American market. The enterprise quickly became a pioneer and a trusted brand in fenestration in Canada. Window balance systems manufactured by Cresswell Pomeroy Ltd are still found today in our schools and hospitals.
In 1951 the company decided to relocate to the Eastern Townships area of Quebec. The city of Granby was chosen because of the innovative vision of the mayor of the time, as well as the savings generated whenever a new factory set up shop in the town. To this day, our head office is still located at the same address.
By the late 1970's, the company was stagnating. Traveling distance was becoming an obstacle to effective management. More importantly, no successors were willing to take up the reins of the family business. The loss of interest was apparent, and the enterprise was becoming vulnerable.
However, in 1985, things changed. A young Quebec businessman with a promising vision decided to take over the company. Over the last 20 years, Mr. D. Bryan Jones has succeeded in putting together a dynamic team to develop and innovate in the field of manufacturing steel components. This was the beginning of a new era, the era of Cresswell Industries Inc.
Today, Cresswell Industries Inc. is a vibrant, forward-looking company which still remains true to its roots: the manufacturing of steel products. Explore our web site, and see what it’s all about!
